Student Internships & Placements

Inclusion Melbourne is committed to providing students with the opportunity to consolidate their studies with practical experiences that will provide a deeper understanding of the lives of people with disabilities and their families and carers as well as the role that professional community support organisations perform in modern society.  Our placements enable you to put your theory into practice and do meaningful work to improve the lives of people with disabilities.

Inclusion Melbourne offers internships and placements to students completing tertiary studies (university or TAFE) in the following areas:

  • Marketing
  • Social media  / web / design
  • Media, digital media, film and television production
  • Social work, Community Services & Disability

Inclusion Melbourne provides supports that are highly personalised and that make sense specifically to an individual. We are a community based organisation and work with people from their homes to the community. Increasingly, we engage in a range of community development activities in order to further our mission. We offer student placements in the following areas:

Personalised Support student placements

A student placement in this area will give you the opportunity to:

  • Support staff in the coordination of supports for people with a disability, their families and/or carers
  • Develop or enhance your case management skills
  • Conduct assessments and prepare reports
  • Participate in developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing individual plans for people utilising a person centred approach
  • Provide advice and information to people with a disability and their families or carers
  • Support and initiate referrals to other community support providers
  • Develop the skills and knowledge to help to negotiate access to services and monitor the effectiveness of service provision on behalf of people.

Entry requirements

  • National Police Check current to year of placement
  • A current valid driver’s licence
  • Currently undertaking a tertiary level qualification such as social work, disability, community services, psychology or speech pathology.

Direct support placements can be undertaken if completing a Certificate IV in Disability Work

Management, research and practice improvement student placements

Management placements offer the chance to consolidate learnings and get hands on in driving consistent practice and positive organisational outcomes through completion of specific agreed projects including outcome measurement, quality improvement initiatives, strategic planning, service development and a range of activities that complement service delivery. These student placements are project placements and may involve:

  • Participating in the development and implementation of organisational-wide performance improvement frameworks
  • Engaging in planning processes & ensuring strategic priorities are pursued
  • Liaising with key external agencies and government departments
  • Supporting staff involved in organisational change processes or discrete projects
  • Completing independent research projects as part of Honours degrees or post graduate qualifications in areas such as outcomes measurement, social impact assessment and costing and pricing strategies

Entry requirements

  • National Police Check current to year of placement
  • You must also be completing your degree in social work, psychology, speech pathology or occupational therapy or a disability or welfare related diploma.

Marketing, social media, web, design or film and television production internships

These internships provide opportunities for students currently studying (preferably final year) or recently completed a relevant degree (eg: Marketing, Business, Communications, Professional Writing, Journalism, PR, Arts). A wide range of projects and opportunities are on offer, based on course requirements and individual negotiation but range from  developing marketing materials through to initiating social media campaigns.

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Passion for raising awareness of social causes
  • The ability, and desire, to learn quickly
  • The ability to develop content
