Discovery Program

Leaving High School?

It can be easy to become overwhelmed by the amount of paper work, financial requirements, decisions and choices that need to be made when leaving school and preparing for life in the community and workforce.

Inclusion Melbourne’s “Discovery Program” for young adults integrates education and relationship building, offering students the opportunity to learn new skills and become active in the community.

We focus on working together with you to understand your gifts and reach your goals. We value your unique strengths and qualities and appreciate your potential to learn, grow and contribute to your community.

Based in Melbourne’s west, Discovery includes the accredited Certificate I in Transition Education and is supported by trainers, a dedicated team of volunteer tutors, and community based learning.

Discovery is all about helping people with an intellectual disability and their families to transition from school to completely personalised support. The program reduces the stress on families by offering a semi-structured transition program that focuses on teaching people about:

  • The options available in their local community;
  • Service to the community;
  • Self-advocacy, rights and responsibilities; and
  • Skills for everyday living, like using public transport, road safety, literacy and numeracy.

This innovative program runs for 12 months (with an option to extend the program)
